CFO Condemns Murder of Filipina in Slovenia, Calls for Justice

The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) condemned the tragic death of Marvil Facturan-Kocjančič, a 27-year-old Filipina allegedly killed by her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjančič, during a holiday trip in Bled, Slovenia, on December 29, 2024.

In a statement, the CFO expressed its condolences to Marvil’s family and called for justice, denouncing acts of domestic violence.

“As we offer our thoughts and prayers with Marvil’s family, we also stand in solidarity with them, condemning acts of domestic violence and seeking justice for our ‘kababayan,’ and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” the CFO said.

Shock and Grief in the Filipino Community

The news of Marvil’s death has caused widespread shock, especially among the Filipino community in Slovenia and other parts of Europe.

The Filipino community in Germany also expressed their sympathies, saying in a social media post:

“The case has sparked widespread shock and sorrow, especially among the Filipino community in Slovenia, where Marvil had just begun building a new life.”

Ongoing Investigation

Slovenian authorities are investigating the incident. Reports indicate that the suspect has been detained and transferred to a psychiatric facility due to alleged mental health issues.

Call for Support and Action

The CFO encouraged Filipinos experiencing domestic violence or abuse abroad to seek help through support channels, including the 1343 Actionline Against Human Trafficking or the nearest Philippine Embassy or Consulate.

Marvil’s tragic death is a sobering reminder of the challenges faced by Filipinos abroad, particularly in intercultural marriages. The CFO continues to advocate for their safety and well-being.
