Google Partners with IBPAP to Upskill Philippine BPO Workers

The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) has announced a partnership with Google to enhance the skills of Filipino workers in the information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) sector. This initiative aims to keep the country’s workforce competitive in the evolving global job market.

Upskilling the IT-BPM Workforce

Under this partnership, Filipinos will have access to Google Career Certificates, which provide training and certification in high-demand fields, including:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Data Analytics
  • IT Support
  • UX Design
  • Project Management

Additionally, Filipinos can enroll in the Google AI Essentials course on Coursera, equipping them with fundamental knowledge on artificial intelligence (AI) and its practical applications.

Bridging the Skills Gap

IBPAP aims to generate $59 billion in revenue and create 2.5 million jobs by 2028, but the industry still faces a skills gap that needs to be addressed.

IBPAP President Jack Madrid emphasized that AI will reshape the industry, stating:

“Gen AI will not replace people, but people who use Gen AI will replace people who don’t. Gen AI is all about people, how work gets done, so we need to make people, not just technology, central to how we deal with generative AI.”

This highlights the importance of equipping Filipino workers with AI and digital skills to ensure continued employment opportunities and industry growth.

Strengthening the Philippines’ IT-BPM Leadership

The partnership between Google and IBPAP reinforces the Philippines’ position as a global IT-BPM leader. Madrid sees this initiative as a step toward securing the industry’s future:

“This partnership is key to reinforcing the Philippines’ position as a global IT-BPM leader, ensuring our workforce remains competitive.”

Google Philippines and Thailand Country Director Jackie Wang echoed this sentiment, saying:

“By equipping Filipinos with in-demand skills, we hope to contribute to the country’s economic progress and digital future.”

The Future of IT-BPM in the Philippines

With artificial intelligence and digital transformation rapidly changing business operations, continuous upskilling and reskilling will be vital for Filipino workers to stay competitive. This initiative aligns with the government and private sector’s goal of future-proofing the workforce in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
